Takeda Kanryu is a small time opium dealer who has aspirations to be a major arms dealer. To achieve this status Kanryu is willing to go to any length to get the arms to sell so he forces Megumi to make an opium that is mass-production friendly and cheap to make.
Megumi escapes from his clutches one day and finds her way to a game of dice in which Kenshin and Sano are losing pretty badly. Seeing her in distress they immediately help her, but have now picked a fight with Kanryu's personal body guards, the Oniwa Banshu.
The Oniwa Banshu eventually get Megumi back to Kanryu's stronghold, where Kenshin must face off against its toughest and deadliest fighter, Shinomori Aoshi. Kanryu tries to buy off Kenshin and it only succeeds in enraging him even more.
As Kenshin is fighting the Oniwa Banshu Kanryu comes out with a gattling gun and proceeds to shoot every one of th eOniwa Banshu... Hannya provides a distraction while Kenshin goes in for the final blow against Kanryu - he breaks the gattling gun and then smashes Kanryu's face with his Sakaba.
