Berserk Animated TV Series
The Berserk anime... my all time favorite series ever. I'm so biased towards it that I will tell anyone to watch it. If you haven't seen it you need to. Really! Go, now before it's too late!
The Berserk anime series began its initial run on Japanese television on October 7th, 1997 and occupied a late night slot (@ 1:45am) because of its intense content and graphic nature. This series is like nothing I've seen before, and may never see again. It's late time slot didn't stop die hard Berserk manga fans from watching it, after all the manga's insanely popular in Japan.

Berserk Animated TV Series - Story
Berserk is the story of a young swordsman named Guts (Gatts, Gattsu, Gats, Gutz... Miura uses Guts so that's what I'll use) and his journey towards something that will change his life and all those around him forever. The very first episode introduces us to an extremely PISSED and insane Guts, who is on the path for revenge, but as the story progresses we are shown the flashback of Guts's past and what led him to become the Black Swordsman.
The story is filled with the most amazing cast of extremely realistic characters, each with their own flaws, hopes, dreams, and ideals. Guts eventually joins the Band of the Hawk, a legendary army of bandits and mercenaries that will attempt to reach for the heavens with Guts as their right hand. The series is the telling of their ascension towards the one goal that their leader Griffith has seen, to rule absolutely and attain his own kingdom. The band of the hawk also introduces us to Judeau, Pippin, Rickert, Corkus, and most importantly for Guts, Caska.
The characters grow and strive for everything right in front of the viewer, and never have I been so entranced by a story. It's really that good, and unless you've seen it you won't know what I'm talking about!
Most of the series takes place in the Kingdom of Midland, which has been waring with a neighboring kingdom, Tuda, for hundreds of years. Using this as a way to attain greatness, Griffith and the Hawks side with Midland and join their forces as one of its strongest components. the battles are bloody and vicious, and the interaction of characters is really something to see.
I'll leave this as the synopsis as I don't want to give anything away.
How can I get a hold of this series?!?
Easy, buy it or download it... with the quality of the R1 DVD's I strongly urge you to pick them up!!! And TURN OFF the dub ^_-;;;
Media Blasters finally released the first DVD after waiting what seemed like a billion years... The quality of the video and audio is great, and the menus are even cool (though not as cool as the r2 Japanese ones). The dub is HORRENDOUS so I suggest dealing with subs and the amazing voice cast of the original. You can get the DVD's pretty much anywhere that sells DVD's, but if you really wanna help the site buy them from animenation ^__^
Your other options are basically Japanese or HK DVD, fansub VHS, or downloadable files from the internet. For VHS you'll basically have to look for a fansubber so I can't help you there. As for DVD you can purchase the official DVD set w/NO subtitles for around $250 from places like animaxis or the extremely overpriced planet anime. But that's too much for you and you don't speak Japanese ne?
The HK Dvd's are pretty good but I can honestly recommend the US release, it'll be a million times better. Check out what I had to say about the Berserk HK DVD set here. They're all over ebay so just look for them and I'm sure you'll find some.
Finally there's downloading... if you have a streamload account feel free to stop by my anime download message boards and request it. Bunches of people have the series so someone'll send it to you ^_-
I saw Berserk - WTF?!? Is there going to be more???
I'm not going to lie, I don't know :p
There have been rumors forever that a second series would be produced, but until I see something concrete I won't believe it. We can always hope, pray, or cry until more is made but until then Manga is the way to go! It's still in full production and friggin' amazing so go get it!
